Mrs. Tan-A Hoffman
Tan-A Hoffman has been teaching for 19 years in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. She was hired at JKL Bahweting School in 2008 as a Reading Recovery Teacher, and in 2015, she returned to the 4th-grade classroom and is now teaching 2nd grade. She recently gained her National Board Certification in the area of Early and Middle Childhood Literacy: Reading-Language Arts. With her passion for Native American Education, she is involved with the Teach to Lead project, with the goal to increase the number of NBCTs educating Native students and empowering Native American communities. Tan-A is also a board member of the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. She enjoys collaborating with others to promote equitable change in education for educators and students.
She believes in a team approach when meeting the needs of students which include parents, peers, and community members. She deeply enjoys working with teachers in the EUP by providing professional development opportunities in the area of literacy during the summer months.
