  • Career Technical Education Millage

    The vote on the Regional CTE Millage will be on the Tuesday, May 2, 2017 Ballot.

    Absentee ballots will be available by March 18, 2017

    The last day to register to vote in the May 2 elections is April 3, 2017

    What is Career and Technical Education (CTE)?

    Career and Technical Education provides job skills to high school juniors and seniors, allowing them to join work force after graduation.  This may encourage students to pursue additional training and/or university/community college coursework, trade schools, or apprenticeships.  CTE Prepares the Qualified Workforce for the future.  https://www.acteonline.org/cte

    When is the election?
    · May 2, 2017
    · Every precinct in Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac Counties, plus Seney Township in Schoolcraft County
    · Absentee ballots available in late March - http://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,4670,7-127-1633_8716_8728-21037--,00.html

     How much is the millage and what will it cost?

    • 1 mil for ten years
      · This will produce $2,300,000 per year to establish and operate CTE programs for all EUP juniors and seniors
      · $1 for every $1,000 of taxable value
      · This is a regional millage for regional CTE programs for all of the EUP

    What can the CTE millage funds be used for?

    • The funds can ONLY be spent to establish and operate classes and activities that are designed to prepare students for useful employment in recognized occupations.  All funded programs will be open to all EUP stdents.

    What makes CTE different?

    • CTE Programs are required to have a local advisory board of employers to guide them
      · CTE Programs articulate free credits upon program completion with community colleges and universities
      · Many CTE programs offer Industry, State or National certifications to students
